Members and comments

I've enabled comments on the blog because just listening to myself type is rather dull. If you'd like to be able to comment, you know how to reach me. Just drop me a line and I'll add you as a member to the blog.

No more choppy sound but GLX is still giving me fits

OK, sound is no longer choppy. Turns out that artswrapper had to be suid root for normal mortal users such as myself to get realtime sound. Now I can listen to music again while compiling (which as all Gentoo users is a fact of life with this distro).

Kernel 2.6 installed, some small glitches

OK, so I finally tried 2.6 a second time, without the evilness known as genkernel. It installed and is running OK, but there are a few minor glitches.

3d video rendering - GLX isn't being loaded correctly, after much reading and futzing I'm still not sure why. Dang me for having a video card that is less than 3 years old. :p

Alsa - it was glitching on configuration options for my soundcard driver snd-cs46xx. I took them out of the configuration file you're supposed to edit (modules.conf). However, I was getting the same error. I had to take them out of modprobe.conf (which you're not supposed to edit, but c'est la guerre). Now it just stutters badly during program compiles.

Neither of the IDE CD rom drives are being recognized. This will be looked at eventually.

Other good news is that USB is recognized, the back and newly installed front ports - yay! I'm in love with my Jump Drive.
